Reunion is a tropical island of about 2.500 km2 in the Indian
Ocean. French territory. It is of volcanic origin and very mountainous
and its highest peak reaches 3,070 m. A trip to the still active
volcano is like crossing a moonlike landscape. The volcano is
still active and sometimes creates spectacular displays of lava
flow. The west coast features 17 km of lovely sandy beaches protected
by coral reefs. The best way to explore this ‘intense’
island is to hire a car and tour around and stay in some of the
charming small hotels.
